Frequently asked questions
What do I need for a cacao ceremony?
At minimum: ceremonial cacao, warm water or plant milk, and a cup. Many people froth their cacao with a molinillo, and in Maya tradition copal resin such as Rax Pom is burned to cleanse the space.
What is a molinillo?
A molinillo is a traditional wooden whisk used to froth cacao drinks. Ours is 12 inches long and handcrafted from wood; it creates the creamy, frothy texture of traditionally prepared cacao.
What is Rax Pom copal resin?
Rax Pom means "green incense" in the Kaqchikel Maya language. It is 100% natural copal tree resin, hand-harvested from wild trees in Cahabón, Alta Verapaz, and used by Maya spiritual guides (Ajq'ijab') in fire ceremonies.
What's the difference between the ceremonial cacao cup and mug?
Both hold 12 oz and are handmade from clay and hand-painted, so no two are alike. The ceremonial cacao cup is handle-free, in the traditional style; the mug has a handle for everyday use.
What is The Sacred Guide to Ceremonial Cacao?
A digital e-book by Amana Moe about the origins of ceremonial cacao and how to recognize and prepare it with respect. Proceeds support single mothers in the Maya Kaqchikel community in Guatemala.
