A Copalera Made by Hand, for Real Ceremony
This is the vessel used to carry copal smoke through a room, around an altar, or over the people you love. Shaped by hand from clay and kiln-fired by Rosa in Guatemala. Direct from the artisan who makes it to your hands, no middlemen.
Because every piece is made by hand, no two are exactly alike. The ridges, the tone of the clay and the marks of the fire change from one copalera to the next. Yours will be one of a kind.
Two ways to use it
- Hang it. The loop at the top holds a cord, so you can carry the smoke through your space or around someone, the way it is done in Maya ceremony.
- Set it down. The pedestal base sits steady on your altar or table while the copal burns.
How to use
- Place a charcoal tablet in the bowl and light it until the edges turn gray.
- Add a small piece of copal resin on top.
- Hang it by the cord or set it on a heat-safe surface and let the smoke rise.
Details
- Unglazed terracotta clay, kiln-fired
- Matte natural finish
- Works with copal, frankincense, myrrh and any resin burned on charcoal
- Copal resin and charcoal not included
Questions before you buy
Does it come with copal and charcoal?
No, this is the copalera only. For everything you need to light your first ceremony, choose the Rax Pom Ceremonial Copal Ritual Kit.
Does it get hot?
Yes, the bowl does. Hold it by the cord or the base, and always set it on a heat-safe surface.
Will it crack?
Terracotta handles the heat of charcoal. Never pour water on it while it is hot, and let it cool completely before cleaning.
Will it change over time?
Yes. The smoke slowly darkens the clay, and that is part of its life as a ceremonial piece.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Close, but not identical. Each copalera is handmade, so expect small differences in shape and color.
